Day by Day Itinerary:

Day 1

Place & Transport: Arrive in Lhasa, Flight not included

Day 2 (B, L)

Place & Transport: Lhasa

Today's Activities: Barkhor Street, Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple

- Jokhang Temple (2 hours) : Smaller and more manageable than the Potala, this 4-storey, golden-roofed temple is at the heart of a rich and living Tibetan Buddhism. Many locals pray here regularly; the Temple is surrounded by Barkhor Street and thronged with pilgrims and visitors. Yak butter lamps burn in front of rich statuary that includes the Sakyamuni Buddha brought to Tibet by Princess Wen Cheng in the 7th Century.

- Potala Palace (1 hours) : Former winter home of the Dalai Lama, a vast, awe-inspiring maze of corridors and stairs leading through countless rooms of richly decorated statues, tombs, murals and antiques. You will climb past the White Palace into the Red Palace, where the file of pilgrims offering silk scarves, coins or yak butter to burn in the shrines combine to make this an unforgettable experience. Note: you need to be fit for the long stairways.

- Barkhor Street (2 hours) :Built about 1,300 years ago, The Barkhor (pilgrims’ circuit) is found in the heart of Lhasa encircling the Jokhang Temple. In the past, it was a designated circumambulation circuit, "a saint’s road" in the eyes of Tibetans. Many people call the Barkhor “the window of Tibet” as it exhibits typical Tibetan life. Watch the pilgrims, wearing their local dress from many different parts of Tibet, as they circle clockwise around Jokhang Temple with prayer wheels, or prostrate them near the front gate.

 

Day 3 (B,L)

- Sera Monastery (3 hours) :Tashilhunpo Monastery was founded in 1447 by Gyalwa Gendun Drup (1st Dalai Lama) and is a historically and culturally important monastery. Its name means “heap of glory” or “all fortune and happiness gathered here”. Painted in red and white, the buildings in the kloster stand closely together in terraced rows, offering a grand and majestic view. Tashilunpo Kloster represents the Tibetan super architecture art in the Last Tibetan spirit.

- Drepung Monastery (3 hours) :Drepung Monastery lies in west of Lhasa under Mt. Gambo Utse, clustered round by the black mountain, its white grand buildings shining under the sunlight. Built in 1416, it is considered as one of the largest monasteries in the six principle monasteries of Gelu Sect in China. Drepung Monastery used to be the living palace of Dalai Lamas before the reconstruction of Potala palace (after the 5th Dalai Lamas was bestowed by Qing emperor Qianlong).

- Norbulingka (2.5 hours) :Norbulingka means "Jeweled Garden". Constructed as a summer palace for the Dalai Lama, it later served the whole government administration. It was built by the 7th Dalai Lama and served both administrative and religious purposes.

 

Day 4 (B,L)

Place & Transport: Lhasa to Nyingchi

- Basomtso(2.5 hours) :Covering 26 square kilometers (10 square miles), the pristine waters of the green lake reflect the picturesque snow-capped peaks surrounding the lake.Basomtso lies in the Cuogao Village Gongbujiangda County, Nyingchi. It is in the valley of the upper reaches of the Ba River, 50 km from the Town of Gongbujiangda, 39.6 km from the National Highway No. 318 and 370 km from the Tibetan Capital Lhasa.

Day 6 (B, L)

Place & Transport: Rawok to Pomi
Today's Activities: Our guide and driver will escort you from Rawok to Pomi, Rawok Lake, Overlook The Midui Glacier

- Rawok Lake (2 hours) : The Ranwu Lake, the largest in southeast of Tibet, is in the Village of Ran about 90 km from the Baiba Town neighboring the Nyingchi Prefecture. The lake, 3,800 meters above the sea level, has a water area of 22 square kilometers. On the bus ride from the Basu County, Chadu down the Sichuan-Tibet Highway (now the National Highway No. 318) one can see a corner of the lake. This is the most dangerous highroad in China.

-Overlook The Midui Glacier :Ranked as "One of Top Six Most Beautiful Show Caves in China" by China National Geography Magazine, Midui Glacier is located in is located in Yupu Town, about l 00 kilometers east of the Bomi County in Nyingchi Prefecture, Tibet. Its altitude is from 2,400 meters to 6,800 meters and it has snow and ice all year round.

Day 7 (B, L)

Place & Transport: Pomi to Nyingchi
Today's Activities: Our guide and driver will escort you from Pomi to Nyingchi, Lulang Forest Area, Overlook The Namjagbarwa Peak

-Lulang Forest Area (2.5 hours) : The most impressive is the forest of Tibetan cypresses of about 10 hectares at the Bagyai Village in Nyingchi County at 3,040 meters above sea level.

- Overlook The Namjagbarwa Peak (3 hours) :In Tibetan, Namjagbarwa means a "long lance piercing into the sky." The sky-scraping Namjagbarwa Peak, with its majestic appearance, precipitous shape and unpredictable climate, has was an ambitious aim of mountain-climbing organizations from various countries for many years. It was finally conquered by a Sino-Japanese climbing team in 1992.

Day 8 (B, L)

Place & Transport: Nyingchi to Lhasa
Today's Activities: The Gigantic Cypress Wood in Nyingchi, Our guide and driver will escort you from Nyingchi to Lhasa

-The Gigantic Cypress Wood in Nyingchi (2 hours) : The giant cypress wood is in the valley of the lower reaches of the Yaluzhangbu River and the Niyang River at the latitude of 3,000 to 3,400 meters. In the Giant Cypress Nature Reserve of the Bajie Township, there scatter hundreds of such huge cypresses only seen in Tibet, which are noted for their huge tree crowns and upright trunks.

    About Tibet Travel Permits

    1. How to apply for a Tibet Entry Permit?

  • Tibet Entry Permit is not available by independent travelers at the moment. Travelers have to travel in tour group and ask their travel agent to apply it for you. We will assist you in applying for it after you entering Tibet. Please prepare the following documents before asking your travel agent to apply permit.
    a. a copy of your Passport;
    b. a copy of your China visa (tourist visa);
    c. Full names, gender, Date of Birth, Passport number, nationality, occupation;
